1900年4月のパリ万国博覧会で幕を開けた20世紀。栄華を誇った大英帝国は衰退に向かい、日露戦争をくぐり抜けた日本は近代へ脱皮し、空前の好況期となってアメリカが世界の主役に躍り出た20世紀。誰もがアメリカン・ドリームを夢見てアメリカを目指しました。タイタニックもヒンデンブルグもこの時代の悲劇です。そんな良き古きアメリカの残像です。

 圧倒的な精細感「ガラス乾板」 1884年、紙の代わりにガラス板を塩化銀でコーティングすることで写真品質は飛躍的に向上しました。このギャラリーは20世紀初頭の白日夢のような光景の記録です。

その違いは乾板(フィルム)サイズの違いからも明らか。一昔前の35mmフィルムが24×36mmであるのに対し、8×10インチ板では193×243mm。現代では目にすることのない魔性の精細感を味わって下さい。
